As a part of our 3rd anniversary, we EXPECTATION WALKERS are providing an opportunity to explore the beauty of Attapady through the Nature Camp that will be held on July 9 and 10 , 2022.
Attapady is a tribal taluk in Palakkad district, Kerala. There are mainly three communities of tribes living in Attapadi they are Irulas, Mudugas and Kurumbas. The community of Muduga has 1206 families, Irula has 9253 families and Kurumba has 724 families.
Unlike other Nature Camps, our Camp mainly focuses on tribal conservation and their upliftment through various programs and plans.
The Nature Camp has been attracting lots of people and organisations and we are taking this opportunity to make others understand the situations of the tribal community and to provide a resolution to their problems by forming community centers where everyone, including the tribal communities, could come together and build and developtheir livelihood. Our motto being - To Create And To Understand The Needs Of Tribal Life.
The main objective of the Nature Camp is to provide medical camps to the tribals. It includes:
▫️Physiotherapy: This medical camp is mainly focusing on introduction of physiotherapy and awareness on the same to tribes. We are trying to focus on physiotherapy advice after pregnancy, muscular dystrophies in children and their occupational muscle stress.
▫️Psychiatry: Attapady is a place where the number of homicides and suicides are increasing. This camp will help them to tackle their mental and emotional problems through counselling.
▫️Nutrition: Recently, in Attapady, there was two death cases due to malnutrition. To understand the nutrition level of the children and people there, checkups will be held through this program.
▫️Dental: Maintenance of dental cleanliness is very important and the community will be given medical assistance for the same during the Camp.
▫️Netra: This is a program that involves eye check-up for the tribal people.
Therefore, the medical camp gives importance to both physical and mental health of the community. We, hereby get a primary diagnosis of the people where this research results can be used to understand which area has to be given more importance to, in the future.
The Nature Camp done by Expectation Walkers is unlike other camps because, we focus on the upliftment of their community by bringing in other organisations who aim at providing social works and services thereby forming community centers so that we could understand the problems and hardships of the tribal life, inorder to pool in our ideas for the betterment of the society.
NGO discussions is one of the important event to be held on these days where various organisations from all over Kerala will come together to express their views and ideas on the topic- Youth Led Development in Tribal Conservation. The recorded ideas and suggestion will be later used to implement the same for the upliftment of the community.
