Kerala Declares Itself Free of Extreme Poverty — But the Opposition Disagrees

ree

In a landmark announcement on the state’s 69th Formation Day, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared that Kerala has officially eradicated extreme poverty, becoming the first state in India to achieve this milestone. The declaration, based on data collected through the Nava Keralam Mission, marks a bold step in Kerala’s journey toward inclusive development and social justice.

According to the government, over 64,000 families identified as extremely poor under the State Poverty Eradication Mission have been successfully rehabilitated through targeted welfare schemes, housing support, education, and healthcare initiatives. The Chief Minister emphasized that this achievement demonstrates the state’s commitment to “development with human dignity” — a model that combines social welfare with data-driven governance.

However, the Opposition has strongly disputed the claim, calling it a “political stunt” and questioning the methodology used to determine poverty levels. Critics argue that the government’s figures fail to reflect ground realities, especially in rural and tribal areas…

Kerala’s Bold Vision: Empowering Women to Lead 50% of the Workforce by 2035

ree

Kerala has set an ambitious new target for women’s empowerment and economic growth. Local Self-Government Minister M. B. Rajesh announced that the state aims to raise women’s workforce participation from around 20% to 50% within the next 5–10 years through an expanded Kudumbashree mission.

This initiative marks a major step in Kerala’s ongoing efforts to make its economy more inclusive and resilient.

🌸 Empowering Through Kudumbashree

Kudumbashree, one of India’s largest women’s self-help networks, will now take on a broader role in employment generation. The mission plans to transform idle homes into micro-entrepreneurship hubs, helping women start small ventures in food, crafts, retail, and digital services.

To ensure smooth implementation, the government will simplify licensing norms, and provide easy access to loans, subsidies, and training based on individual interests and skills.
