Kerala’s Bold Vision: Empowering Women to Lead 50% of the Workforce by 2035

Kerala has set an ambitious new target for women’s empowerment and economic growth. Local Self-Government Minister M. B. Rajesh announced that the state aims to raise women’s workforce participation from around 20% to 50% within the next 5–10 years through an expanded Kudumbashree mission.
This initiative marks a major step in Kerala’s ongoing efforts to make its economy more inclusive and resilient.
🌸 Empowering Through Kudumbashree
Kudumbashree, one of India’s largest women’s self-help networks, will now take on a broader role in employment generation. The mission plans to transform idle homes into micro-entrepreneurship hubs, helping women start small ventures in food, crafts, retail, and digital services.
To ensure smooth implementation, the government will simplify licensing norms, and provide easy access to loans, subsidies, and training based on individual interests and skills.
💡 A Shift Toward the Digital and Service Sectors
The new phase of Kudumbashree will not be limited to traditional sectors. The mission is preparing to expand into digital entrepreneurship, service industries, and tech-based livelihoods, ensuring that women are part of Kerala’s emerging knowledge economy.
Skill training programs will be tailored to both existing expertise and market demand, allowing women to take up sustainable, future-ready careers.
🌍 Building a Balanced Workforce
By prioritizing women-led entrepreneurship and reforming outdated systems that hinder participation, the initiative aims to create a more gender-balanced workforce and strengthen the state’s social fabric.
If the plan succeeds, Kerala could emerge as a national model for inclusive economic development, driven by women’s leadership, innovation, and enterprise.
✨ In summary:
Kerala’s vision for the next decade is clear — empower women, unlock entrepreneurship, and reshape the workforce. Through Kudumbashree, thousands of women may soon move from the sidelines to the center of economic progress.
