Kerala takes a firm stand against child abuse: A special police wing to handle POCSO cases!

With the increasing number of POCSO cases, Kerala has once again proven that there will be no compromise when it comes to the safety of children. The latest and most important development is that the state police force will now have a special wing dedicated to investigating POCSO cases. As part of this, the government has sanctioned 304 new posts.
This new wing will function independently without affecting existing positions or the regular police force. The newly created posts include 4 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP), 40 Sub-Inspectors (SI), 40 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI), 120 Senior Civil Police Officers (SCPO), and 100 Civil Police Officers (CPO). With this, the police system is being further empowered to take strong action against sexual offenses targeting children.
This is not just a success for Kerala, but also a strong message to reassure parents, schools, and children themselves that their safety matters. Back in 2019, the Supreme Court had directed all states to establish a special unit for POCSO investigations, and now Kerala is turning that directive into real action. In 2021, the State Police Chief had recommended forming such a special wing, and now that proposal is becoming a reality.
This initiative is expected to ensure more effective and speedy investigation of POCSO cases, bringing much-needed relief to children and their families. It’s not only a sign of responsive governance but also a reflection of a society that prioritizes the safety and dignity of its children.
This is more than just a step toward justice — it’s a powerful commitment by the society to protect the future of its children.
